Wild Style

The classic Wild Style lives long in the memory, providing the cinematic accompaniment to the old school NYC scene. Along with Style Wars and some of the journalistic photography of Martha Cooper, Henry Chalfant and the like, it was one of the definitive documents of the era (if a bit more romanticised than Style Wars). The film was loosely based on the life of graff pioneer and king Lee.

The film featured Fab 5 Freddy, Lady pink, Lee and Zephyr. The graf piece is by Zephyr, Revolt and Sharp. While Grandmaster Flash, the Rocksteady Crew, Double Trouble and Cold Crush/Grandmaster Caz were the hip hop mainstays. Patti Astor also put in an appearance, while Blondie guitarist Chris Stein played on/produced some of the album tracks.

Cold Crush are on myspace at http://www.myspace.com/coldcrushbrothers.

As is Grandmaster Caz at http://www.myspace.com/grandmastercaz.

There's a cool Wild Style site at http://www.wildstylethemovie.com.
